DOG TRIANING

board and trains

Your dog will stay in our home while we train and socialize them. They will be 100% off leash trained and will reliably understand place command, sit, down, loose leash walking, recall, kennel up etc. Your dog will be socialized with people and other dogs extensively and other things can be included at no additional cost (ie. treadmill training, swimming lessons, retrieve training etc). This program is tailored to you and your dog’s specific needs.

All training equipment is included- place board, slip lead, additional training collar if suitable, as well as homework videos and access to our client facebook group. We also include unlimited access (for the lifetime of the dog) to our training pack walks that take place a few times per month in various places throughout Ottawa so that you can maintain all your training. You can come as often or as little as you like and we can help troubleshoot any issues you're having while you also get to practice around other people and dogs. The board and train package ranges in price from $3000-3500 plus HST depending on you and your dog.

We do not have a set amount of time that your dog stays with us because we are results oriented. It could be as little as 2-3 weeks or as long as 4-6 weeks. We want to provide you with the best outcome so we take as long as it takes.

LEASH WALKING

3 private sessions.
If you have a reactive dog etc, this package is not for you-- you would need the board and train or private package.

The leash package is $500 plus HST and includes a leash and training collar if needed.

Our private training package is exactly the same as above but we do the lessons in your home, the dog does not stay with us.

Typically, clients need 4-6 sessions.

You must do the work and put in the repetitions. If you are are a busy person or you travel a lot, or if you simply are not committed to doing the work, this is not the right package for you. This package ranges from $1200-1600 plus HST depending on you and your dog and it includes everything listed in the board and train package above.

FAQ

got a question? We have answers

training

WHAT TRAINING METHODS DO YOU USE?

“We are modern day dog trainers that use scientific principals of operant and classical conditioning as well as the four quadrants (selectively) to create a dog that does what we want, when we want with heart and soul.” -Duke Ferguson, NePoPo.

We use a ton of food in our training- we want the dog to be motivated to work and learn. We use markers to communicate to the dog when they've succeeded. We never use aversives in the learning phase, but once the dog knows what is expected, we add negative reinforcement to ensure we get results when needed. The goal is to wean out the food and negative reinforcement over time but you will always need to do maintenance (like learning a new language!) -- training is for life!

WHERE DOES TRAINING TAKE PLACE?

Training takes place at your home (private lessons), in our home (board and train), in public places (privates/board and train) or on our private rural properties in Dunrobin On. We will be building a facility in Dunrobin in the next year and we will then be doing consults and training there.

HOW MUCH DOES TRAINING COST?

We focus on results, not the number of sessions. All of our training is packaged into programs and each program is specific to you and your dog. Private lessons range from $500-1500. Board and trains range from $3000-3500 plus applicable taxes.

DO YOU TRAIN AGGRESSIVE DOGS?

Training human aggressive dogs is not our forte. If your dog has a bite history, we will refer you to one of our amazing colleagues that specializes in those issues.

We do deal with human and dog reactivity and even if you think your dog might be aggressive, please reach out to us because there is a good chance they are not!

IS THERE A GUARANTEE?

We obviously cannot guarantee that you will follow through with the homework and do everything we tell you to do-- and no dog is perfect 100% of the time. But we promise that we will support you and stand with you through the learning phase, as long as it takes until you are happy with the results. We provide a strong support system online for you to reach out to when you're struggling with things or have questions and we won't leave you hanging! If we don't know how to help you, we will find someone who does. There are no refunds on our training programs because we cannot refund education. We will teach you everything we know and do everything in our power to ensure you have success.

walking

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?

We have 18 full time walkers and a few part time back up walkers :)  We service all of Ottawa from Orleans to Stittsville, and from Barrhaven to the Ottawa River. Stittsville, Kanata North/South, Barrhaven, Riverside South, Manotick, Carleton Place, Munster, Richmond, Alta Vista, Glebe, Centretown, Lowertown, Sandy Hill, Overbrook, Vanier, New Edinburgh, Rockcliffe, Manor Park, Beacon Hill, Orleans, Westboro, Hintonburg, Little Italy, Nepean, Bayshore, Hunt Club, etc. If its not listed, shoot us a message and we most likely cover it! We do not currently service the Quebec side but we are working on it!

DO YOU PICK THE DOG UP WHILE WE'RE NOT HOME? DO YOU REQUIRE A KEY?

Yes. We will pick your dog up between 930-130pm and transport them to the park with their friends. We require two keys (one for head office and one for your walker) or a garage code as well as any alarm codes you may have.

HOW DO WE PAY FOR SERVICES?

Billing is sent biweekly via email and payment can be made via interac e transfer, credit card or cheque. If you wish to leave a tip, please give it directly to your walker rather than adding it to your payment.

DON'T THE DOGS RUN AWAY WHEN THEY'RE OFF LEASH?  DO YOU WALK IN FENCED IN ONLY PARKS?

This is one of our most common questions and the answer is no! Most owners that sign their dogs up for our group walks already take their dogs to parks and off leash. Dogs are pack animals and don't want to be alone. We always start new dogs on a long line to ensure we can recall them back, and we work on it everyday with positive reinforcement and consistency. Once we establish reliable name recognition and recall with the long line, we graduate them to leash free but are ready to use the long line at any point if the recall is lacking. The power of the pack is amazing and the newbies learn really fast from the other doggos.  We also offer off leash training packages here

WHAT AGE CAN MY PUPPY JOIN GROUP WALKS?

We start puppies on group walk at 16 weeks or when they've finished their vaccination series. We find this is the optimal time to start because they develop excellent recall and social skills as well as confidence with dogs of all shapes, & sizes. They also become accustomed to car rides and various people, sights and sounds. Puppies aren't initially confident enough to wander too far away, so it's a great opportunity to establish a bond with their walker and reinforce recall training. Dogs that start as puppies are typically our best behaved clients :)

WHERE DO YOU TAKE THE DOGS FOR THEIR GROUP OFF LEASH ADVENTURES?

We own two parcels of private land in Dunrobin. 46 and 15 acres of untouched wilderness complete with a babbling brook, beautiful views, as well as forest and field trails. Some of our walkers also go to Conroy Pit, Stittsville Park, Rockcliffe Park, Heritage Park & Lemieux Island.

HOW MANY DOGS DO YOU WALK AT A TIME?

We take up to 6 dogs per walk to public parks, but on our private land we walk up to 12 dogs, depending on the pack dynamic, the walker's experience and their vehicle set up.

boarding

WHERE DOES MY DOG STAY?

Your dog will stay in one of our care providers homes and be treated like family. We strongly recommend you crate train your dog for many reasons and we prefer to have them crated overnight or when unsupervised for safety reasons. If your dog has containment phobia or absolutely cannot be crated, we will respect that and accommodate your needs as best as we can. This is not a kennel environment- your dog will be actively enjoying our home, sleeping on our sofas and playing in our yards and going for walks with our own dogs.

DO YOU HAVE ANY LONG TERM DISCOUNTS?

We have a boarding loyalty card whereby every ten nights of boarding you get one night free. Your care provider will supply the card and you can keep it with you - just be sure to give it to the boarder whenever your dog stays there. If you always use the same person, you can request that they hold onto it.

HOW LONG WILL BE DOG BE LEFT ALONE?

All of our care providers do this full time- this is their career- their passion, not just a hobby or side gig. This means that your dog will essentially be with us 24/7 with some exceptions (i.e. if your dog cannot go on group walk, or we have to go grocery shopping!)

DO YOU PICK UP/DROP OFF?

Yes, we can pick up or drop off your dog for a fee.
